i'm very excited about this project. I wanted to create this project because as i'm becoming a part of the money earning world I want to know more about what a dollar can mean. Some say that money is just energy. Then, I'd like to know what creative ways people have chosen to direct their energy. Some people direct their money towards cars, some towards art, and others towards some other passion. For me personally, consumerism can often seem merceless in the face of people that sort through trash for food everyday, or can't afford medecine to live. At the same time everyone experiences suffering to some degree. I'm hoping that my uncle, aunt and mother, in whom i see lots of energy and passion for particular causes in life, can share with us something about how they see giving and their passions. I welcome anyone else wants to post the thoughts and passions of meaningful people in their lives.
I originally heard of this idea from an Oprah episode, where each audience member got $1,000 to donnate to the charity of their choice http://www.oprah.com/presents/2006/pay/challenge/challenge_main.jhtml . One couple decided give $1,000 to a couple of their friends with a video camera to document how they spent the money. One women spent the money on taking homeless people to see "The Pursuit of Happiness", and another woman bought school supplies for a 80 year old man who decided to go back to elementary school. Well, through giving gifts and reporting on them, I thought we'd all get a chance to learn about each other. Here's briefly about my friends: Laura Steadwell is my good friend since 1st grade, Charlotte my sister, Amelia is my niece and Josh is my friend from Atlanta.
I hope that all of you will post as often as you wish and share anything you want to. Here are some questions that you can use if you need help directing your thoughts.
1.What inspires me to give where I do?
2. How do I hope my gift will make a difference?
3. Do I face any drawbacks or conflicts in giving my gift to this organization?
